Arkona to Sabaton Open Air 2014
Arkona confirmed today!
Arkona is a Russian pagan metal band. Their lyrics are heavily influenced by Russian folklore and Slavic mythology, and their music incorporates several traditional Russian musical instruments. The name of the band "Arkona" refers to the last pagan Slavic city-castle.
The band was founded in February 2002 by two members of Dolgoprudny Slavic Neopaganism Society: Masha "Scream" Arhipova and Alexander "Warlock" Korolyov. In the end of 2002 they recorded the demo Rus' and started giving concerts. They performed with other Russian folk metal bands such as Butterfly Temple, Pagan Reign, Svarga, Rossomahaar. Then the band had a pause because of lack of musicians. Eventually Arkona released their first album Vozrozhdeniye in 2004 and in December of the same year their second album Lepta.
In 2008, Arkona signed to the Austrian label Napalm Records and re-published the studio album Ot Serdtsa K Nebu, which had already been released in Russia by Soundage Productions in 2007. In 2012, the band toured through Europe with Dalriada and Darkest Era.
Arkona's albums have been widely acclaimed and the band has repeatedly been called one of the best pagan metal acts. All the members except Vladimir "Volk" have another band named "Nargathrond" a Pagan/Goth Rock band that they put on hold since the international success of Arkona.
