Ever timeless, seemingly ageless, and artistically fearless, Lee Aaron has sustained a three-decade strong career based on the powerful songwriting and vocal delivery that are at the heart of Fire and Gasoline. Feature songs like the title track, Wanna Be, Heart Fix, Bittersweet and the first single and video Tom Boy evoke shades of Led Zeppelin, Heart, Bowie, The Runaways and Fleetwood Mac while weaving in and out of Aaron’s unique artistic vision. It is a vision that has led her to sales of close to a million copies in Canada alone, multiple awards and nominations, and a worldwide following that has remained ever faithful. Fire and Gasoline was recorded at Vancouver’s The Farm studio (better known to rock aficionados by its former name, Little Mountain Sound) with acclaimed west coast engineers Ben Kaplan (Mother Mother, Hedley) and vocal engineer/keyboard guru John Webster (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, The Cult). Their gold and platinum certified ears give Fire and Gasoline a contemporary sonic sheen while also honoring the energy of the “off the floor” approach of real musicians interacting in real time. It is a truly classic rock n roll album, with an emphasis on “class”.
As acclaimed rock music scribe Jim Barber notes:
“Lee Aaron’s musical pedigree is highlighted by 12 albums that range from her breakout sophomore release, Metal Queen in 1984, through to the stratospheric commercial and critical success of the anthemic pop-metal of 1989's Body Rock and 1991’s Some Girls Do through the experimental alt-rock stylings of Emotional Rain, released in 1994, and her later jazz albums. Along the journey, Aaron has courageously followed her creative muse wherever it has lead, holding firm to her artistic integrity.
As a collection of new music, Fire and Gasoline is unmistakably Lee Aaron. The powerful, evocative, deeply resonant voice is still in the fore, but it’s now tinged with the gravitas and tenor that comes from the spirit of a more seasoned and thoughtful songwriter and performer. It marks Aaron’s first album since 2004’s jazz-infused Beautiful Things and her first true rock album since 1995’s 2Precious. Aaron’s music has been the soundtrack for millions of fans around the world since her debut, The Lee Aaron Project, was released in 1982. The same catchy vocal and melodic hooks remain, as does her remarkable ability to convey a gamut of emotions over the course of an album – from raucous to reflective, from playful to breathtakingly sad”.
Lee Aaron will be taking the Fire and Gasoline album to the people in 2016 with a stellar live show that has made her a main stage festival favourite in Canada and Europe.
