High On Fire veröffentlichen 10th Anniversary Repress von ihrem Album "Snakes Of The Divine" und Record Store Day Repress von "Bat Salad". Die beiden Neupressungen erscheinen am 05.06.20

High On Fire nahmen am 10.02.2019 bei der 61. jährlichen Grammy-Verleihung in Los Angeles einen GRAMMY für "Best Metal Performance" mit nach Hause, eine der höchsten Auszeichnung der Musikindustrie.
Dies war sowohl die erste Nominierung wie auch der erste Grammy für die Band. HIGH ON FIRE wurde für "Electric Messiah" nominiert, den Titeltrack ihres gleichnamigen Albums aus dem Jahr 2018. Die Band, die nun als Gewinner hervorgeht, reiht sich in die Reihe der bisherigen Gewinner wie Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Metallica und Slayer ein.
"We never really needed an award for doing what we love,” sagt Frontmann Matt Pike. “Twenty-one years later, we finally got this. Thank you to the Academy." Pike dankte unter anderem dem Produzenten Kurt Ballou. Bassist Jeff Matz sprach über ihren langjährigen Manager und Freund Nick John, der im vergangenen Jahr verstorben war und eine wichtige Rolle für den Erfolg der Band spielte.

Kurz vor Albumveröffentlichung haben sie in Kooperation mit Adult Swim den Song "Spewn From The Earth" veröffentlicht. Der Song ist die siebte Veröffentlichung im "Adult Swim 2018 Singles Program" bei dem die Plattform Musik diverser Künstler featured.
"Cryogenically frozen giant kings of old, awake and smash through the bowels of Earth to free themselves," erklärt Matt Pike. "In a campaign to usurp their throne from man, and impregnate the populace once again."

Electric Messiah ist der Nachfolger des 2015 veröffentlichten "Luminiferous" welches bis dato zu einem der erfolgreichsten Alben der Band zählt.
NPR über Luminiferous, "For High On Fire to exude this much vigor 17 years into its existence only reaffirms the band's mastery of the form."
Pitchfork betitelte das Album als eines "among the most enthusiastic and bracing of the Oakland metal band's career."
Und die US Kollegen des Rolling Stone ernannten das Album zu einem "ferocious blast of charging guitars, blasting drums and Pike's inimitable hoarse roar" als sie 2015 die 20 besten Metal Alben des Jahres gekührt haben.
Electric Messiah bringt die Band zum dritten mal mit Produzenten Kurt Ballou zusammen (Converge, Torche, Kvelertak) “Kurt just has a knack for us, man,” so Matt Pike. “We all work really well with him. Even if we have differences about how we want to record something, he works with us and understands what we do. We’ve been sticking with him because we haven’t made a bad record with him yet.”
Es fühlt sich fast absurd an, dass High On Fire so spät in ihrer Karriere noch einmal einen neuen Höhepunkt erreicht haben aber das passiert wohl wenn man ein Trio ist, das so gut zusammen arbeitet. Zusammen mit Kurt Ballous Soundgespür dreht sich bei Electric Messiah alles um die Weiterentwicklung von Pike, Matz, und Kensel.
“This band keeps evolving,” schwärmt Pike “This is by far the best record I’ve ever made with the High on Fire stamp. It just keeps getting better and better. We just try to outdo ourselves. I’m not saying the old work is progressively worse, it’s just that we get better every time instead of burning out, which is a common finality for a lot of bands. This album is fucking excellent, I just love everything on it, I’m not bummed about anything. It’s great when you think that about your record.”

“I had a dream about Lemmy,” erklärt Matt Pike die Inspiration hinter dem Titelsong Electric Messiah. “When Lemmy was still alive I always got compared to Lemmy,” erläutert der Gitarrist mit seiner rauen Stimme, “so I had this dream where he got pissed at me."
"He gave me a bunch of shit, basically, and was hazing me. Not that he didn’t approve of me, but like I was being hazed. The song is me telling the world that I could never fill Lemmy’s shoes because Lemmy’s Lemmy. I wanted to pay homage to him in a great way. And it turned out to be such a good title that the guys said we should call the album 'Electric Messiah.'"
