Previously this summer, Nicky William released "I Fell In Love With Her," a melancholic love story with the sense of not being desirable or sufficient. Now he is following it with "Pathetic Fuck" which is the second single from his upcoming EP.
The new single ‘Pathetic Fuck’ is a straightforward illustration of the anger one can feel towards one's own character traits. Nicky's vision and ambition is to find new ways to create music and realize song ideas that do not feel obvious or simple. In his new material, he has taken the turns and to some extent taken himself outside the melancholic alternative-folk sphere for an experimental, ambitious sound and a complex songwriting that takes greater risks than before.
Nicky William talks about the song: “It is a song that is not about any special person, thank goodness. Anger is directed at character traits in myself but also in other people. The goal for me is to express myself as honestly as possible and in this song there is no masking of my pettiness or anger, I wanted the emotions to control the song without embellishments or poetic metaphors. "
While Nicky appreciates and is inspired by old American folk artists, he is also drawn to the rugged and awkward, which leads to his music often reflecting both worlds. Nicky William debuted with the melancholic alternative-folk-album 'Set your loved ones free, we have you surrounded' in 2017. With influences from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith and Nick Cave, Nicky has really left his mark on music Sweden with his deep voice and his emotional narrative.
Since his debut, Nicky has matured both in his expression and his songwriting and the new single 'Pathetic Fuck' will be released on August 28. In a new collaboration with the Stockholm-based indie label Icons Creating Evil Art, he will release new material throughout 2020.
