Swords, helmets, and shields echo once more as Danish warriors VANIR unleash their new album, “Wyrd”, out today.
Centered around the timeless concept of fate, the record draws from war, human choice, and the far-reaching consequences that shape our world.
Reflecting the present day, where every decision carries the weight of what is yet to come, “Wyrd” weaves stories of downfall and triumph, of lives lost and victories claimed.
The album’s striking visual identity comes courtesy of artist David Troest, whose cover artwork portrays the legendary Winged Hussar, one of history’s most formidable forces. Set against the backdrop of the Battle of Vienna in 1683, the image captures the decisive moment when Polish cavalry repelled the Ottoman Empire, halting its advance into Europe. This historic clash also inspires the track “Never Surrender”, told from the perspective of those who stood in defense of Vienna.
Yet “Wyrd” reaches beyond history. It stands as a reflection on humanity’s enduring struggle with power, destiny, and survival. Blending melodic death metal with epic storytelling, Vanir deliver a reminder that history moves in cycles, and that today’s choices shape the conflicts of tomorrow.
Mixed and mastered at Demigod Recordings, “Wyrd” arrives with a powerful, razor-sharp sound that fully matches the weight of its themes.
