VIVA LA WOLFE - neue Single „EQUALS“ + Video
„Equals“ ist die zweite Single der in Esbjerg ansässigen Alt-Grunge-Rockband Viva la Wolfe aus dem Album „Ambivalence“, welches am 12. Februar erscheint.
Die westdänische Band präsentiert ein kraftvolles, siebeneinhalbminütiges Stück. Es beginnt mit schweren Riffs, die sich langsam aus den Lautsprechern drängen, um dann abrupt in einen tiefen Ambient-Abgrund überzugehen. „Equals“ thematisiert die gegenseitige Akzeptanz von Gewalt auf dem Schlachtfeld zwischen Feinden, Soldaten und Menschen.
Zu „Equals“ sagt die Band:
„The lyrics of our second single „Equals" revolve around the topic of the human race's constant need for violence. The lyrics take the point of view of young men who find a sense of belonging through violent acts against other young men. The song is titled „Equals“ because it almost seems as if violent tendencies bring these people together in a grotesque form of unity. A kind of love towards the enemy. A sense of belonging.
We chose „Equals" as a second single even though it’s a seven minute track because we think that this topic, or message if you will, is worth the extra exposure. We see it as an anti war/violence track but narrated through the eyes of the aggressors.
It is of course both a cynical and a tragic attempt at an explanation to why violence is still so fucking prevelent in our society. But as far as reasonable explanations go, we’ve run out."

Viva La Wolfe gehen ihren eigenen Weg. Auf ihrem zweiten Album lassen die Dänen die Blütezeit des Grunge eindrucksvoll aufleben. Ihre Einflüsse liegen dabei weniger bei Pearl Jam, Soundgarden oder Alice in Chains als vielmehr auf der raueren Seite des Genres, geprägt von Bands wie My Sister’s Machine, Tad, Mother Love Bone, Paw oder Mudhoney. Dabei treffen eingängige Melodien auf eine kraftvolle Wand aus Noise, Feedback und verzerrten Gitarren.
Entstanden aus dem Bedürfnis, eine Geschichte zu erzählen, ist „Ambivalence“ als Reaktion auf eine zunehmend von Angst geprägte Welt entstanden. Die Band machte sich daran, sich ihren eigenen Ängsten, ihrem Bedauern und ihrer schwelenden Wut zu stellen und diese Emotionen in den Sound zu kanalisieren, der sich für sie am ehrlichsten anfühlte: roher, atmosphärischer Grunge, durchdrungen von unerbittlicher Energie.
Die Band veröffentlichte 2018 ihre erste, selbstbetitelte EP, gefolgt von „Millennials“ im Jahr 2021 und dem Debüt-Album „Prosperity“ im Jahr 2023. „Prosperity“ wurde bei den GAFFA Awards 2024 als dänische Hardrock-/Metal-Veröffentlichung des Jahres nominiert.
